Yukon’s Air North has struck a baggage transfer agreement with Air Canada.

Starting today, passengers will no longer have to re-check their baggage when making a connecting flight in Edmonton or Vancouver.

The baggage transfer service won't cost passengers anything.

Bruce Demchuk, Air North’s administrative director, said the airline is hoping to lure back customers with the announcement.

“Earlier this year, as it became more evident that the market for passengers to and from Whitehorse was becoming more competitive, Joe Sparling, our president, made a commitment to step up the efforts to provide beyond gateway service,” he said.

Initially, the air carrier was hoping to strike a baggage transfer deal with Westjet. Demchuk said those talks are still ongoing and that an agreement may still be in the works.
