First Air has announced it will raise its cargo shipping rates by three per cent Aug. 1.
Chris Ferris, First Air’s vice-president of marketing and sales, said it's a reflection of an increase in operating costs on an annual basis.
He added the hike probably won't affect big businesses yet.
“I don’t think there will be an impact on retailers this year,” he said. “Their rates are, for the most part, on an annual basis.”
However individual consumers will be affected.
“The biggest impact will be on someone who has more sporadic shipments. If I wanted to order something from Best Buy Ottawa and have it shipped up — that's where it will have an impact,” he said.
