The Senior Administrative Officer for the Town of Fort Smith in the Northwest Territories has been let go.

Mayor Janie Hobart said the reason for Brenda Black’s termination Wednesday was based on the former SAO’s management style.

"We have a number of goals. Several of them are operate an open, transparent and effective government, to operate the Town of Fort Smith in a fiscally responsible manner, and continue to be a responsible employer. And those, along with a number of other things, we felt we were not meeting those goals under Ms. Black’s management," said Hobart.

Black made headlines last fall when she was charged for fraud and breach of trust from when she was the SAO for the municipality of Georgian Bay in Ontario.

Hobart said those charges had nothing to do with the decision to let Black go.

She said the town will appoint an acting SAO by next week.

Hobart said there will be no disruption of services during the time between appointing an acting SAO and finding a new one.
