The Yukon and federal governments announced Thursday morning an extra $37 million towards infrastructure projects in the territory.
The money, which is part of the federal government’s ‘Building Canada’ fund, will be split between 15 projects.
The projects range from road and bridge upgrades, to water and wastewater infrastructure.
Some of the projects are:
- Replacing the aging water pump house in Faro.
- Surface work on Black Street in Whitehorse.
- Funding towards a geothermal heating system for Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation.
- Help towards completing the new water treatment system in Teslin.
The funding didn’t come as a surprise to Yukon’s infrastructure director. Lynn Standing said many of the 15 projects have already gone through the design phase and construction has begun, while others will get started this summer.
