The lead mushers in the Yukon Quest are resting at the last checkpoint on the trail before heading to the finish line in Whitehorse.
Allen Moore will leave Braeburn, Yukon, at about 4:20 p.m. local time Monday after completing the eight-hour mandatory rest at that checkpoint.
Hugh Neff will be eligible to leave about 40 minutes later. Neff arrived at the Braeburn stop about 12 minutes after Moore, but he has a 30 minute penalty for lost mandatory gear.
They’re expected to cross the finish line sometime after 3 a.m. local time Tuesday morning.
Former Quest champion Lance Mackey is currently in third place, having just pulled into Braeburn from the previous checkpoint in Carmacks, Yukon.
Yukon mushers Yuka Honda and Brian Wilmshurst left the Scroggie Creek Dog Drop Monday morning, and Marcelle Fressineau left Dawson City, Yukon, just after 9 a.m.
