Army vehicles will be moving through downtown Yellowknife on Sunday for winter driving training as part of exercise Arctic Ram.
Four convoys of 12 vehicles each, including armoured personnel carriers and large trucks, will begin their drive on the Ingraham Trail at the landfill, enter the city along 48th Street, turn left onto 49th Avenue, right onto 45th Street, and then left onto Franklin Avenue.
Large trucks and armoured personnel carriers will be practising winter driving on roads in and around Yellowknife Sunday as part of exercise Arctic Ram.The convoys will then turn onto School Draw Avenue and onto the ice road across Yellowknife Bay to Dettah. Once in Dettah, the vehicles will continue on the Dettah road back to the Ingraham Trail.
The driving will take place between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Traffic will be controlled at some intersections, and drivers can expect delays.
In recent weeks there have been two accidents on N.W.T. roads involving vehicles taking part in the military exercise.
No injuries were reported when a military truck lost traction on a icy road near Franks Channel last month. A five-ton Budget rental truck turned over, also near Behchoko, on Feb. 3. The soldier driving the rental truck was treated at Stanton Territorial Hospital and released.
