A Whati, N.W.T., mother and her three children are safe after their home’s carbon monoxide detector alerted them to the presence of the deadly gas.
Leanne Moosenose said the carbon monoxide detector in her home wouldn't stop beeping after she turned up the heat last week. She logged on to Facebook and asked for advice.
Moosenose was told to get herself and her children out of the house immediately and call the local firefighters.
“He chipped off the ice off the chimney, it was blocking the airway,” she said. “That's what he said. And as soon as he chipped the ice off the chimney, that's when the smoke started coming out.”
Moosenose said she had been feeling drowsy and dizzy and knew that something was wrong.
She's encouraging people to make sure their chimneys are clear of ice and that their carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.
