Survivor hopes Yukoners will take opportunity to share their stories

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada is in Whitehorse this week.
The commission is letting anyone who has been affected by residential schools record their stories.
Joanne Henry was sent to residential school at just five years old. She now counsels other former residential school students and their families.
Henry hopes Yukoners will take the opportunity to share their stories.
“If you want to talk about it and you’re not sure, just come to the event and decide for yourself from there. They’re documenting the history of the residential school so that it never ever happens again,” she said.
The private statement-gathering sessions will be held Monday through Friday. They run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day at the Goldrush Inn.
