Sabina buys Bathurst Inlet Port and Road Project

Sabina Gold and Silver Corporation has bought the Bathurst Inlet Port and Road project previously owned by two Nunavut companies, Nuna Logistics and Kitikmeot Corporation.
The Nunavut Impact Review Board wrote to the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development in October to determine if the project review should be closed.
Now, the Vancouver-based company, which staked claims in the area, is asking for more time.
"Sabina has requested to give us some time before the minister gives his recommendation and that's why we've asked until the end of March, because we sort of needed two or three months to consider options around the project," said Matthew Pickard, director of Environment and Community Relations at Sabina Gold and Silver.
It will be up to the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs to decide if the review period should be extended.
The Bathurst Inlet Port and Road was proposed as a way to improve transportation in the Kitikmeot and open up the region to mineral exploration.
It would include a 211-kilometre all-weather road to connect the port to the Tibbitt to Contwoyto winter road to Yellowknife.
