Two individuals who have had an impact on the North were among 66 new appointments to the Order of Canada announced Friday by Gov. Gen. David Johnston.

Iqaluit resident Aaju Peter was honoured for her volunteer work promoting and preserving Inuit culture.

Photographer Hans Blohm of Ottawa was also recognized for his work documenting northern heritage.

The Order of Canada is the country’s highest civilian honour.

Recipients will receive their medals at a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa in the new year.
