A Hay River, N.W.T., man has been charged with manslaughter in the death of another man in the community over the weekend.
Mark Glen Larsen, 28, was granted bail in a Yellowknife courtroom on Wednesday, after he was charged in connection with the death of Brent Darrell Nixon.
Nixon, 50, was found unresponsive outside the Royal Canadian Legion in Hay River early Saturday morning. He later died in hospital.
An autopsy was slated to take place Tuesday. RCMP spokesman Sgt. Wayne Norris said police are waiting for the results to reveal how Nixon died.
"We will be getting a report back from the post-mortem to give us a better picture of exactly what the cause of death was," Norris told CBC News late Tuesday.
"But at this point in time, we're satisfied with a charge of manslaughter in this case."
Norris would not comment on the association between Larsen and Nixon, but he confirmed that alcohol was a factor in the incident.
As conditions of Larsen's bail, he cannot leave the Northwest Territories, purchase or consume alcohol, or go to the Hay River legion.
Larsen is also required to pay a $2,000 cash pledge, report to the Hay River RCMP on weekdays, surrender his passport, and notify police of any changes to his address or employment.
He is scheduled to make another court appearance Oct. 28 in Hay River.
Family members told CBC News earlier this week that Nixon, a father of three, had lived in Hay River for about 30 years. He operated a CN rail route between the town and High Level, Alta.
