A 16-year-old boy in Sanikiluaq, Nunavut, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a man in the Hudson Bay community earlier this month.

Sanikiluaq RCMP were contacted on May 2 about a man who had been missing for several hours. The body of Lucassie Emikotailak, 27, was found later that day near a residence in the hamlet.

Police charged the boy with second-degree murder on May 8, police stated in a release Friday. The teen cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Anyone with additional information about Emikotailak's death is asked to contact Sanikiluaq RCMP.

With a population of 744, Sanikiluaq is located on the Belcher Islands in Hudson Bay, about 1,000 kilometres south of Iqaluit.
