Three people from a hunting party are recovering in Paulatuk, N.W.T., after they were rescued from an ice floe in the Arctic Ocean on Wednesday.

The group had been stranded, and one of the people had fallen into the frigid ocean, according to the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre at Canadian Forces Base Trenton, Ont.

Search officials say private helicopters rescued the trio from the ice floe and flew them to safety.

All three people — an American, a hunting guide and a third unidentified person — are being treated at the Paulatuk nursing station and are listed in good condition.

No names have been released.

The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre received a call early Wednesday morning after the group encountered trouble.

A Hercules aircraft from Canadian Forces Base Winnipeg travelled to the scene on Wednesday, while the two private helicopters in Paulatuk were on standby.
