Darren Kenny had been wanted by police since he was mistakenly released from the South Mackenzie Correctional Centre in late August. He was arrested in Edmonton on Monday. (RCMP) A Deline, N.W.T., man who was accidentally freed from jail four months ago was captured this week.
RCMP say Darren Lee Kenny, 27, who had been let out of the South Mackenzie Correctional Centre in Hay River, N.W.T., in August, was arrested in Edmonton on Monday during a routine traffic check.
Kenny was supposed to stay behind bars while he awaits trial on charges of sexual assault and failing to comply with a probation order.
Corrections officials did not realize they had erred, in releasing Kenny, until RCMP called in November to inquire about escorting him to court.
While he was on the run, Kenny was found to have posted and received at least a dozen messages on Bebo, a social networking website.
Kenny is due to appear in court in Yellowknife on Monday.
