Bystanders praised after Whitehorse hit and run

Whitehorse RCMP are praising members of the public who not only helped the victim of a hit and run Friday but also tracked down the suspect vehicle.
The female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle just after 8:30 a.m. PT, at the intersection of Second and Black.
Sgt. Glenn Ramsay said the male driver immediately drove away from the scene, and onlookers stepped in to help.
While some aided the woman, another person followed the hit-and-run driver to Main and Sixth.
A 24-year-old man from Dawson City was arrested, with charges pending against him. Ramsay said alcohol and speed were believed to be factors.
"The public played a pivotal role in assisting the police in locating the driver of the vehicle that had hit the pedestrian," Ramsay told CBC News.
"Prior to the arrival of emergency crews, other people that had witnessed the accident and other witnesses assisted the female who had been struck by that vehicle."
Ramsay said the woman was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
