A pair accused in a deadly Whitehorse house fire last year made their first court appearance in the Yukon capital on Friday, shortly after they were flown in from Calgary.

Norman Eli Larue, 26, and Christina Marie Asp, 31, were arrested Tuesday in Strathmore, Alta., and charged with first-degree murder in the March 2008 death of Gordon Seybold.

On Friday, Alberta RCMP flew Larue and Asp from Calgary to Whitehorse, where they appeared at the local courthouse. Their next court appearance was set for two weeks from now so they can find lawyers.

Firefighters found the charred remains of Seybold, 63, at the site of his Ibex Valley-area house, which was destroyed by fire on March 26, 2008.

Police said RCMP and city police forces in Alberta and British Columbia were involved in a 16-month investigation leading up to this week's arrests.

Larue, formerly of Kamloops, B.C., had just been released in the Calgary area on July 29, upon finishing a 5½-year prison sentence.

Asp, who was born and raised in the Yukon, recently served prison time after she pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2005.
