RCMP said they arrested a Yukon woman, 31, and a man, 26, originally from British Columbia, on Tuesday in Strathmore, Alta., about 50 kilometres east of Calgary.
Both were arrested in connection to the death of Gordon Seybold, 63, whose house in the Ibex Valley near Whitehorse was destroyed in a fire on March 26, 2008. Police found burned human remains, later identified as Seybold, in their investigation of the blaze.
The male accused has also been charged with arson.
The two are scheduled to appear in court in Alberta on Wednesday, after which they'll be brought back to the Yukon.
Police did not release the names of the accused, but Calgary-based reports identified the man as Norman Eli Larue, who was released in the Calgary area July 29 after completing a federal prison sentence.
Calgary police warned the public of Larue's release, saying he has a history of violence and sex offences.
The arrests are the result of a 16-month investigation involving RCMP from the Yukon, Alberta and Vancouver, as well as the Edmonton and Calgary city police forces, the RCMP said.
