Nunavut sex offender has conditions imposed on release

A convicted sex offender who completed his prison sentence last month will have to live by certain conditions when he returns to his hometown of Pond Inlet, Nunavut, a court judge ruled Monday.
Appearing Monday morning before the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit, Lanny Kippomee, 28, was ordered to keep the peace, have no contact with his victims, report regularly to a probation officer and abstain from alcohol.
Kippomee finished his three-year sentence on May 29 for sexual assault, forcible confinement, and failure to comply with court orders.
Shortly after he was released from an Ontario penitentiary, Nunavut RCMP issued a public warning, saying he could pose a danger to the public when he returns to Pond Inlet.
Kippomee has previously been convicted of assault, use of force, and failure to comply with the conditions of recognizance, related to offences dating back to 2001.
The court ruled that Kippomee will also be required to get counselling if it is available.
