Three sick ravens were found recently near Watson Lake, Yukon, weak and unable to fly.

Last month in Dawson Creek, B.C., around 30 ravens were found with a mystery illness that caused paralysis mostly in the birds’ legs.

Mary Vanderkop, Yukon's chief veterinary officer, said the birds' deaths may not be connected to those in B.C., but it's best to be cautious.

"We have retained tissues because if anything does turn up that is of concern with the birds in British Columbia, say they find an underlying virus infection, we have the birds in Yukon and can determine whether that was present as a contributing factor here," she said.

Tests have been done on the Yukon birds. They were suffering from malnutrition and a fungal infection when they died.

Territorial veterinarians are still awaiting the results of the B.C. tests.
