Search underway for missing teenager in Nunavut community
A ground and air search is continuing for a missing teenager from Igloolik, Nunavut.
Sgt. Yvonne Niego, spokesperson for Nunavut RCMP, says the local detachment in Igloolik was notified about an empty boat going around in circles near the community.
"The RCMP have since learned that a 16-year-old male known as Darryl Auksaq been reported missing. He was last seen starting the boat in the early morning hours on Aug. 5," Niego said.
She says a Canadian Forces Hercules aircraft is helping with the search. Local people are also looking in the water for the young man, but there are no divers.
Igloolik is a community of about 1,500 people more than 700 kilometres northwest of Iqaluit.
