A search for Richard Hager, 21, who has been missing since he jumped off the bridge at Pelly Crossing, Yukon, into the river for a swim almost a week ago, is being scaled back.

Hager was last seen last Saturday evening, struggling to get to shore.

Police say searchers have worked tirelessly this week using boats, foot patrols, and flights over the river. Searchers included RCMP from Dawson City, Mayo and Carmacks; Police Dog Services, auxiliary constables, M Division RCMP Relief Team, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Yukon Search and Rescue, and volunteers from Selkirk First Nation and the communities of Mayo and Carmacks.

An exhaustive search has turned up no evidence of Hager.

Pelly Crossing RCMP say further river and air searches will be conducted with consideration given to elders' and community experience in relation to the river currents.

Police are also asking people travelling on the Pelly River from Pelly Crossing and on the Yukon River from Fort Selkirk to keep a lookout for signs of Hager.
