The Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous festival is in full swing in Whitehorse.

Over the festival's 50-plus years, interest in the event has been dropping, but people are working hard to revive old Rendezvous traditions.

One of those traditions is dressing up for the occasion. But what to wear? Where to find that perfect gold rush-era gown?

Meet Myrna Kingscote. She's the lady you see when you need something to wear for Rendezvous.

Kingscote can quickly size you up and help you pick the perfect outfit. But keep in mind that what you wear depends on what time of day it is.

"With Rendezvous... daytime events, there's two areas," Kingscote said. "There is your walking suit which consists of your shirt and your jacket, blouse, purse, hat — always hats during the day — and feathers or headbands or flowers for the evening, jewellery.

"The tea dresses, they are full-skirted. A lot of ruffles and big floppy hats like I got on but in the right colours, gloves, always gloves, crinoline helps to stand it out and helps the wind stop from blowing through your legs."

Then, of course, there's the ball gown.

"Your ball gown is worn after five o'clock," Kingscote said. "You go to cocktail parties, dinner parties, dances or anything like that after five o'clock or if you are going out to the theatre."
But Kingscote said the most important thing about Rendezvous is to enjoy yourself, and that's easier to do when you're dressed for it.

"Anybody that wears a costume, be it at Rendezvous, at the commissioner's ball or any other thing, when they get dressed up in costume, it's like they take [on] a whole new aura."
