Whitehorse RCMP will have an increased presence on the street for Yukon Sourdough RendezVous celebrations this weekend.
This is the festival's 50th year. Activities this weekend on Main Street include dog sled rides, frozen turkey bowling, and hot-dog-eating and pie-eating contests.
Const. Dean Hoogland says there tends to be more incidents involving alcohol and drugs during the week-long festival.
"We have extra members coming in; we also have auxiliary members coming in to assist our members and as well we have our citizens on patrol teams that will be out there," he said.
Hoogland also reminds people that it's important to dress for the weather. He says the combination of hypothermia and over-consumption can be lethal.
