Two Kugaaruk residents have been charged after being caught with a substantial amount of liquor at the community airport on Saturday.

Alcohol is prohibited in the community.

Together, the two were carrying 13 bottles of vodka, a bottle of rum and a bottle of sparkling wine. RCMP estimated the street value of the liquor at more than $3,000.

Both were returning to the community on a chartered medical flight as patient escorts.

They were charged with unlawful possession of liquor and fined under the Liquor Act.
