RCMP seek arsonist in Mayo, Yukon
Police say nearly a dozen fires have been deliberately set
RCMP are looking for help to stop a persistent arsonist in the Mayo area, after nearly a dozen deliberately set fires in the area.
Firefighters were called out again Tuesday to a forest fire burning near the Mayo cemetery, the third one near the cemetery this summer.
Duty fire officer David Milne said whoever is responsible is putting lives and property at risk.
"We're quite certain that somebody is deliberately starting fires and we have fire crews patrolling the areas," he said.
"We are working with the RCMP closely to monitor what is going on and we are obviously trying to catch somebody but it is difficult when they are starting in many different areas around Mayo and it is endangering homes and property."
Firefighters say many of the other fires have been close to the community and could have been extremely dangerous.
