RCMP end search for missing Iqaluit man, ask for tips

An extensive door-to-door search for Benjamin Palluq last week failed to find the missing 44-year-old homeless man.

The RCMP have concluded their door-to-door search for missing Iqaluit man Benjamin Palluq.

He's been missing for more than two weeks.

But Sgt. Yvonne Niego said police are renewing their call for tips.

"And, if Ben, you're listening to any of the messages about the search for you and you're okay  that's all we need to know. We wouldn't want you to be afraid to come forward," Niego said.

People can also make anonymous tips through Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go to the website, http://www.nwtnutips.com/.

Concerned community members have also been helping police search for Palluq.

Teams scoured abandoned boats and crates and went door-to-door last week, looking for the 44-year-old homeless man who has been a fixture in downtown Iqaluit for years. He was known to take shelter in boiler rooms or other places where he could stay warm or take shelter.

Palluq was also seen often at the North Mart store and the Royal Bank.
