A 25-year-old Iqaluit man was in police custody Friday, charged with aggravated sexual assault in an attack that occurred nearly five months ago.
In a release sent late Friday, Iqaluit RCMP said they had arrested Jimmy Nowdlak earlier in the day after officers received information relating to a sexual assault that took place in the city last Sept. 8.
At the time, police said a man, dressed completely in black, had severely beaten and sexually assaulted a 57-year-old woman near Inukshuk High School.
Nowdlak will appear before the Nunavut Court of Justice on Feb. 5 for a show-cause hearing.
In the meantime, police said their investigation into the incident would continue.
