A byelection to elect an MLA will be held in Rankin Inlet South on Feb. 10, Elections Nunavut announced Thursday.

The writ will be dropped five weeks before, on Jan. 6.

The byelection is necessary because a judicial recount upheld the tie in that constituency in last month's election. Lorne Kusugak and Alexander Sammurtok both got 172 votes.

The February byelection will be open to any candidates who submit their papers.
