A jury was selected in Pond Inlet, Nunavut this morning for the trial of Lisa Arreak.
The 32-year-old woman is facing three charges related to attempting to procure or solicit a person under 18 to have illicit sexual intercourse with another person.
All of the incidents are alleged to have occurred in Pond Inlet between Jan. 1 and March 1 of last year.
There is one complainant: a female under the age of 18.
Three witnesses will be called during the judge and jury trial: the complainant, the co-accused in the case and Arreak.
Justice Neil Sharkey will hear the case. The trial is scheduled to last all of this week.
The original version of this story incorrectly stated Lisa Arreak’s charges: she faced three charges, not four. A charge related to "living off the avails of prostitution" was dropped before the case went to trial. There was one complainant in the case, not two. The Crown called two witnesses, not several.Apr 15, 2014 1:39 PM CT
