PM Stephen Harper's 2014 Northern tour announced

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is scheduled to visit Whitehorse, Fort Smith, N.W.T., then Cambridge Bay, Pond Inlet and Iqaluit in Nunavut.

Fort Smith, Cambridge Bay, Pond Inlet among expected stops

Prime Minister Stephen Harper will be in the North Aug. 21- 26, his office announced Tuesday.

Harper is scheduled to visit Whitehorse, Fort Smith, N.W.T., and Cambridge Bay, Pond Inlet and Iqaluit in Nunavut. 

Joining the prime minister on the trip will be Industry Minister James Moore, Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Minister Bernard Valcourt, Environment Minister and Nunavut MP Leona Aglukkaq, National Defence Minister Rob Nicholson, Minister of State for Science and Technology Ed Holder, Nunavut Senator Dennis Patterson, Yukon Senator Daniel Lang, and Yukon MP Ryan Leef. 

The news release says the northern tour will support Northerners "through investments in education, research and development, agricultural science and modern technology, as well as by enforcing and defending Canadian territorial sovereignty."
