Planned power outages in parts of Nunavut, N.W.T. on Sunday
Three communities in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut should plan for power outages Sunday lasting four to six hours.
In Nunavut, Qulliq Energy has scheduled power outages in parts of Cambridge Bay. The power will be out in that community from 6 to 11 a.m. ET Sunday.
The power will also go out in parts of the community of Igloolik Sunday between 8 and 11 a.m. ET
Areas affected in Igloolik include the Government of Nunavut offices, the Continuing Care Centre, the schools, the RCMP detachment and units, the Co-op, Savik Enterprises, SSI Micro, the community hall, the local radio station and the Catholic Mission To The Inuit.
N.W.T planned outages
In the last week, some communities in the North Slave region of the Northwest Territories have experienced frequent unplanned outages due to smoke and heat from forest fires near transmission lines. That can cause the line to be grounded, which causes an outage.
But for people in Fort Simpson, N.W.T., an outage Sunday is planned.
The Northwest Territories Power Corporation says the outage is for maintenance and will start at 7 a.m. MT and last four to six hours.
It will affect the Villeneuve Vista and Four Mile access, including Northwestel and the airport.
The corporation asks people to turn off their lights and unplug appliances during the outage.
