Grade 12 students who missed their final English exam due to a blizzard earlier this month will be able to make it up in April, instead of having to wait until June as some feared, a government news release says.

About 100 students in Nunavut's Kivalliq and Baffin regions missed their English Language Arts final exam Jan. 13 when blizzards shut down schools in six communities.

Nunavut follows the Alberta departmental exam program and schedule. Normally, students who miss exams have to wait until the next scheduled sitting — in this case, June.

However, the Nunavut and Alberta education departments have agreed to make an exception in this case, to avoid any conflict with other exams scheduled in June.

The final exam makes up 30 per cent of a student's total mark.
