Nunavut filmmaker wins Genie Award
A film by Zacharias Kunuk won the award for Best Short Documentary at the Genie Awards Thursday in Toronto.
The Genie Awards honour excellence in Canadian film.
Kunuk, of Igloolik, Nunavut, directed Sirmilik as part of the Canada Parks Project.
Sirmilik focuses on the landscape and wildlife of Sirmilik National Park on North Baffin Island. Tanya Tagaq, originally from Cambridge Bay, provided some of the music.
Kunuk's film Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner won the Genie for best motion picture in 2002.
