Nunavut electricity rates may temporarily drop in new year
Quilliq Energy Corporation may have to lower fuel stabilization rider by $0.0139/kWh
Nunavummiut may be getting a temporary break on electrical power rates.
The Nunavut Utility Rates Review Council says Qulliq Energy Corporation doesn't need the total amount it's requested for its fuel stabilization rider.
There was a rider of $0.0531/kWh in place until Nov. 30, and Qulliq wants to continue that rider until the end of March.
But the URRC says its preliminary review shows that number isn't justifiable based on current fuel costs and recoveries, and is recommending a lower rate to the Minister Responsible for Qulliq Energy.
The URRC says as of Dec. 31, the rider should be reduced to $0.0392/kWh until Qulliq's full application to continue the $0.0531/kWh rider is reviewed by the council.
The council is accepting written submissions on Qulliq's fuel stabilization rider request until Jan. 17.
