Internet users in N.W.T.'s Mackenzie Delta region can expect a faster connection after Northwestel doubled the bandwidth in the region.

The $3.5 million investment in microwave radio infrastructure along the Dempster Highway and into communities in the Mackenzie Delta was part of the company's infrastructure improvement plan.

Northwestel says the improvements to microwave radio infrastructure along the Dempster Highway and into communities in the Mackenzie Delta is part of the company's infrastructure improvement plan.

The improvements increased the capacity of the microwave network in Tuktoyaktuk, Aklavik, Fort McPherson and Tsiigehtchic.

Northwestel says the upgrade was possible because of its partnership with Falcon Communications. Through Falcon, the federal government is contributing $14.8 million to improve internet services in the N.W.T.

Northwestel says cell phone users in the Mackenzie Delta can also expect upgrades this year.
