Brendan Green was the top Canadian in the men's 20K biathlon event in Sochi this morning.

He placed 21st in the event, completing the race in 51:69.3, just 2:33 behind the leader, Martin Fourcade of France.

In the shooting element of the race, Green missed two shots.

The race is a major triumph for Green, who underwent major back surgery and had to do serious rehab before getting back on his skis.

Eighty-nine people took part in the event, including four Canadians.

This was the third event for Green.

Earlier in the games, he placed 23rd in men's 10 kilometre sprint and 35th in the 12.5 kilometre men's pursuit.
