N.W.T. MP Dennis Bevington has introduced a bill in the House of Commons to protect Yukon's Peel River.

Western Arctic MP Dennis Bevington has introduced a bill in the House of Commons to add the Peel River to the list of waterways under the Navigation Protection Act.

The bill adds the Peel to the list of waterways he wants protected under the Navigation Protection Act.

"I don't think there is any great desire to see the great waterways of our country unprotected for navigation purposes, for environmental purposes, for any purpose," he said. "We understand how important that protection is."

Bevington said he has consulted with people in both the Yukon and N.W.T.

He's calling on the Yukon government to also take action to protect the Peel River.
