More join in efforts to find missing Nunavut elder
Elder fell off sled being towed behind grandson’s snowmobile
Additional help has been sent out, as volunteers continue to search the land near Baker Lake, Nunavut, for a missing elder.
The 72-year-old man was last seen on Tuesday riding in a qamotik, or traditional sled, towed behind his grandson's snowmobile. He fell off the sled somewhere on the trail between Rankin Inlet and Baker Lake.
Cpl. Jonathan Saxby, with the RCMP in Baker Lake, said searchers are optimistic, but concerned about the man's age.
They're also concerned because the elder doesn't have any survival gear with him.
Dozens of volunteers from Baker Lake, Chesterfield Inlet, Rankin Inlet and Whale Cove are involved in what continues to be a ground search only.
RCMP say searchers have set up a base camp at the east end of Baker Lake.
