Some people in southwest Yukon are reporting feeling a mild earthquake over the lunch hour Tuesday.

The Alaska Earthquake Information Center says there was an earthquake in Yukon at 12:24 PT, centred 39 kilometres southeast of Burwash Landing. It had a magnitude of 4.17.

Luc Garceau was on Sixth Avenue in downtown Whitehorse when he felt the shaking.

"And I checked my plant, big plant, green plant, and it was moving right and left and I said, well this is like an earthquake," he said.

"I checked outside and there was no truck, no snow removal."

Garceau says he became familiar with earthquakes while living in Vancouver.
