Village councillor Mike Crawshay will be sworn in Wednesday as the new mayor of Haines Junction, Yukon.

Byelection to be held to fill village council seat

Mike Crawshay, the new mayor of Haines Junction, Yukon, will be sworn in Wednesday.

Crawshay takes over the post by acclamation.

The town's former mayor, George Nassiopoulos, quit the job last month following clashes with a village councillor.

"I'm optimistic we'll be able to move on," said Crawshay.

Crawshay has been on council for more than 10 years. He says he wanted to experience some new challenges.

Crawshay will be sworn in as mayor before Wednesday's council meeting.

A byelection to fill Crawshay's former council seat will be held in December.
