The Merv Hardie ferry, though retired from the Fort Providence, N.W.T., crossing, may return to service on the Mackenzie River.
The Merv Hardie was removed from service when the Deh Cho Bridge opened in November 2012.
In the legislative assembly on Friday, the MLA for Mackenzie Delta asked that the ferry be moved to the Tsiigehtchic crossing.
Sonny Blake Jr. says it could make faster trips than the current ferry and it would have a longer run each season.
Transportation Minister Dave Ramsay says the Merv Hardie needs some work, but he'll be considering the best place to send it back into service.
