A man is in police custody in Hay River, N.W.T., following the death of a woman in the community last night.
Hay River RCMP say they got a call for assistance at around 10:30 p.m. Monday. Officers found an injured woman and provided first aid and CPR until paramedics arrived.
"I heard a scream and I looked out the window and the RCMP were just coming up the road," said Shawn Evans, a neighbour.
"They come running over there and they're doing CPR to her. I ran over there, I thought something was going on and I went to go to assist. It's pretty bad, a bad crime scene. They had to lock out the unit from the neighbours. They can't even go home anymore."
The woman was taken to H. H. Williams Memorial Hospital where she died from her injuries.
The RCMP's G Division Major Crimes Unit, Forensic Identification Services, Federal Investigative Unit and the Office of the Chief Coroner of the N.W.T. are involved in the investigation.
