Man found on highway in Whitehorse says he was assaulted

The RCMP say a 29-year-old Albertan who appeared to be injured was taken to the Whitehorse hospital by a passing motorist.

Whitehorse RCMP are investigating an alleged assault on a 29-year-old Alberta man.

They say at about 7 p.m. Sunday a motorist saw an injured man, walking along the Alaska Highway just north of the Crestview neighbourhood.  The driver called police to report the sighting.   Shortly afterward, a second motorist stopped and took the man to Whitehorse General Hospital.  Constable Dean Hoogland says the man was treated at the hospital for his injuries and released.

"We're asking the public if they saw anything in the area around that time to please give us a call," says Hoogland.

Hoogland says it does not appear the incident was random. He says there is no indication there is a general risk to the public.
