RCMP officers discovered two people dead in a home in Pangnirtung, Nunavut, early this morning.

The officers found the bodies of a man and woman after receiving a request to go to the residence at about 12:15 a.m.

The Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Section from Iqaluit are travelling to Pangnirtung to help with the investigation.

"These unfortunate deaths are still under investigation. While we cannot confirm at this time that this is a murder-suicide, we do not believe that we have a suspect at large. We also have no information to believe that the public is at risk," said Nunavut RCMP Supt. Hilton Smee.

Smee said police are still trying to determine what happened inside the home.

The names of the victims are not being released by police at this time.
