Makivik Corp to consult public on Plan Nunavik
Plan is Makivik's response to Quebec government's Plan Nord
Makivik Corporation wants to start community consultations in the new year to find out what Inuit think of Plan Nunavik, or Parnasimautik.
Plan Nunavik was created to address the region's needs in the face of Plan Nord, the massive resource development plan by the Quebec government.
Makivik wants to update Plan Nunavik now that the ruling party of the Quebec government has changed.
"We wanted to have a foundation we could rely on to say that if there are developments going to happen in the Nunavik region, we have conditions that we want met," said Jobie Tukkiapik, president of Makivik Corporation.
Tukkiapik said the region needs more housing and places for post-secondary education.
