Lutselk'e recount results in tie vote for chief
Archie Catholique and Felix Lockhart have 63 votes each
Archie Catholique and Felix Lockhart are now tied for chief of Lutselk'e, N.W.T., after an official recount of votes was held over the weekend.
Catholique was initially named the winner after the election on March 14. He reportedly defeated Lockhart by three votes.
However, the community's electoral officer, Graeme Drew, says seven ballots that were originally deemed spoiled have now been allowed to be counted. Drew says the people who cast those ballots put a check mark instead of an X to indicate who they were voting for.
Catholique and Lockhart are now tied with 63 votes each.
Drew says a special committee has reviewed the community's election code and has submitted a report to the band council. The band council will meet Tuesday morning to decide what to do next.
