Long-time Northern priest Ken Snider dies in Dawson City
Anglican minister spent 45 years serving in Yukon and N.W.T.
Long-time Yukon Anglican priest Ken Snider died Tuesday at the age of 80.
Snider served for decades as a minister in Dawson City, and worked in communities across the North, including Cambridge Bay, Hay River, Whitehorse and Keno City, over 45 years. He also served in Aklavik, N.W.T., in the late 1950s and was the first Anglican priest to serve at Inuvik, N.W.T.
He officially retired in 1998, but continued to minister in the Klondike until a few months ago.
Anglican Bishop Terry Buckle was his boss and close friend for much of that time.
"I was his bishop when he retired but Ken never really retired," he said. "I think that what he will be most remembered for is his faith and his demonstration of that faith by the kind of person he was."
Funeral services for Ken Snider will be held Saturday at 2 pm at St. Paul's Church in Dawson City. A feast will follow at the Trond'ek Hwech'in Community Hall.
