Lightning sparks new fires near Wemindji, Que.
Police close access road to community north of Eastmain
Lightning sparked new forest fires Friday morning near the Northern Quebec Cree community of Wemindji, police in the community report.
The community of about 1,200 lies on the east coast of James Bay about 90 kilometres north of Eastmain, which has been partly evacuated due to another forest fire.
The new fires are located near kilometer 18 on the Wemindji access road.
Firefighters from the community are attempting to put the fires out.
Officials say the Eeyou Eenou police have set up a road block just outside of Wemindji as a precaution, and only authorized personnel will be allowed on the access road.
