A Kugaaruk, Nunavut, man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of his wife in the community in 2008.
Justice Earl Johnson issued a written decision at the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit on Friday.
Bruce Kayaitok admits he assaulted his wife. He stabbed her twice in the abdomen with a broken mop handle.
Belinda Tootiak, who was 30, bled to death. Their two sons — then ages 3 and 5 — were home at the time.
At his April trial, Kayaitok said he was guilty of manslaughter, not second-degree murder.
The date for Kayaitok's sentencing hearing will be set on Monday. It will be in Kugaaruk.
