A Nunavut court judge has awarded almost $134,000 to a former employee of the Qulliq Energy Corporation who sued the company for "constructive dismissal."
Amy Hynes, 36, worked for QEC in various roles for seven years before leaving the company in 2010. She filed a civil lawsuit saying her work situation became so intolerable that she was forced to leave.
In a written decision issued Tuesday, Justice Earl Johnson agreed.
He detailed a series of events presented in court to show how Hynes' job was changed and her roles and responsibilities reduced. More than half of Hynes' job duties as a corporate secretary were transferred to another position and a new person was hired. Hynes became the target of hostile actions by Qulliq's director of Human Resources, Catherine Cronin.
Hynes told the court she suffered stress and high blood pressure after leaving her job.
The judge ordered the power corporation to pay damages and costs.
